Who is Slinkachu? Slinkachu is a British, London-based artist, who creates small-scale scenes and photographs them. His 'Little People Project' began in 2006, which included remodelling and painting tiny model train set characters. He 'abandons' the miniature people, and leaves his artwork on the street.
My Favourite of His Photographs
These are my favourites because they are all extremely creative and artistic. Every single photograph he takes seems to have a meaning or story behind them, and I think that's why so many people love his ideas.
These 2 are my favourites because I really like the purpose and meaning behind them. In the feathers photo, it seems like the man in spreading his wings to a better life. In the poppy picture, the pin from the poppy is going through his chest, which tells the story of the pain and memories he has been put through.
Akiko Ida - Akiko Ida is a food and lifestyle photographer who was born in Japan. Her work is featured in cookbooks and magazines in Europe, Japan and the U.S. In her Slinkachu shoot, she incorporated her food with Slinkachu.
These photos are a joint photo shoot with her and Pierre Javelle. 'Tiny People's Adventures in the World of Food.'
The Best Photograph
I think that this is the best image because of how simplistic yet effective it is. The use of marshmallows as icebergs and blue cloth as water shows the creativity behind the photographer and highlights the idea of using animals and food - the food being bigger than an animal and using it as their habitat.
Isaac Cordal Isaac Cordal is a Spanish Galician artist whose work involves sculpture and photography in the urban environment. He lives in Brussels and Galicia. 'With the simple act of miniaturization and thoughtful placement, Isaac Cordal magically expands the imagination of pedestrians finding his sculptures on the street.' – Steven P. Harrington, Brooklyn Street Art.
I really like the way he uses almost dystopian surroundings to make the pictures look like an apocalypse or post-war and the messy abandonment of his artistry creates a haunting feel to his photographs. The fact that he places the toys to look so scared and anxious, and as if their fending off of each other to survive brings a completely different tone to the theme. This also contrasts against the lightness of the actual picture - you would expect something with such a dark theme to have a lower exposure, but the brightness battles against this and makes it seem as if he is bringing light on actual situations, rather than just putting them on a shelf and allowing them to be ignored.
My First Shoot Plan. I will try to tell a story through my images, starting with men who appear bigger than women, and slowly changing it to women who appear bigger than men, and women and men the same size. I want to make my first photographs quite dark, so I will turn the exposure quite low, but still light enough for the camera to focus on the figures. I want the women at the start to seem out of focus, which represents the insignificance of women to society, so I will change the focus point on my camera to the male figures in my shoot. In the last few photographs, I want the lighting to be brighter, so I will set the ISO and exposure to a higher setting. My focus point will then be on the women, blurring out the men and leaving them in the background
Best Photograph
I think that this is my best photograph because it shows each character doing their own thing. However, the lighting is quite dark and the exposure is too low, so I need to change the ISO. I used male models on the front line to show how, even though the women were trying to go against their poor treatment and inferiority given to them by the world, men still held the power and fire to their fight.
Worst Photograph
i think this is my worst photograph because it doesn't tell the story by itself, if it stood alone it wouldn't make sense. The background does not fit as it doesn't go with the idea of a protest or riot like it should.
My Second Shoot - Improvement of my First.
I added the clock in the background to represent how women were running out of time. It shows the patience women had to have, living with such a divided society.
My Best Picture So Far
I think that this is my best photograph because the focus point is exactly how I wanted it to be. The women are more in focus than the men and the clock adds a lot more depth into the photograph.
My Third Shoot - Plan
For my third shoot, I'm using the song from The Greatest Showman as my inspiration
Where - Somewhere with a lot of light, maybe a window or on a table with a light shining above it.
What - I want to base it off of the meaning behind the song 'This is Me' from 'The Greatest Showman'. The song is an anthem for the 'outcasts' and tells a story of bravery and courage.
Props - I will be using characters who look the same, but then add in the characters that will represent the 'outcasts' and 'weirdo's' in the story.
How - In the video for the song, it starts with the outcasts being trapped outside of a ballroom, hidden away by their boss from the public/higher class. I will try to recreate every scene as I go along, starting with this one. They are then seen marching through a crowd of angry people, people who want them locked away for being different. For this scene, it will be quite dark but still emotional. I will create this effect by turning the exposure down, and focusing on the crowd of outcasts rather than the crowd. For the ending scene, I will show the crowd of people who accept them, and create a scene of happiness and bravery. To make this, I will keep the exposure high, and change the white balance to make the photographs become and seem more magical and meaningful.
